A huge congratulations to GFW seniors Marti Jacobson and Sam Berkner for being honored with the Triple A Award! The Academics, Arts, and Athletics award honors high school seniors throughout the state who have a 3.0 or higher GPA and who participate in league-sponsored athletic and fine arts activities.
Award recipients are selected through a multi-level process involving member schools of the league, the league's administrative regions, and a special committee of educators, business leaders, and members from the fine arts and athletic communities.
We're proud of you Sam and Marti!
Let's celebrate GFW Elementary student Adler Kent! Adler wrestlers for rolling thunder out of New Ulm at the 72 lb weight class. He has a record this year of 65-7, with 37 pins.
Last weekend was regional qualifiers, where over 100 of the states best 3rd and 4th graders at his weight class wrestle for 1 of 16 spots to go to state. Adler secured his spot last weekend to go to state by placing 3rd in his region. He will be wrestling state in Rochester and is considered one of the top 16, 3rd and 4th grade wrestlers at 72 lbs in the state. Way to go Adler!
Sibley County Deputy Eric Johnson and his canine partner Otis were the special guests at the T-Bird way assembly. We honored police officers as our real life heroes! Pictured with him is Adler Kent. He is going to state in wrestling, and we also recognized his accomplishments at our T-Bird way assembly.
Students in ninth grade were able to do Pre-Registration today where they learned about class offerings for next year and think about what they want to take. Registration for next year is coming soon!
The snow didn't stop these students from heading to St. Cloud State University early last Friday morning for an honor band event! Jennifer Guzman, Kalli Aden, Adrian Soliz, Caidyn Suess, and Jacy Rolf-Harrell were selected to rehearse and perform under the leadership of Christopher Fogderud (Brainerd HS), Dr. Don Linn (SDSU), and Dr. Catharine Bushman (SCSU). Composer Marie A. Douglas made an appearance to talk to students about her pieces that each band performed and discussed the spiritual, urban life in Atlanta, and hip-hop influences she weaves into her work.
In between rehearsals, students were in sectionals led by professional musicians, including internationally-acclaimed saxophonist and educator Preston Duncan of the U of M. The day ended with students seeing a late afternoon performance from the SCSU Wind Ensemble where Mr. Berg was seen playing with the clarinet section, and each of the three honor bands had a wonderful evening performance of music they only spent one day rehearsing.
The students did a fantastic job of representing GFW at this event. Although they had a fantastic time learning, performing, and interacting with students from several other Minnesota schools, they were glad to finally get home after a long day of making music!
Students in grades 7-12 were able to attend an amazing assembly yesterday featuring Minnesota native Cory Greenwood who shared about self worth and living our own truth with music from former American Idol contestant Hannah Nicolaisen. The assembly was made possible through the generous support of the Thunderbird Foundation, with contributions from the old St. Gregory's Church in Lafayette specifically earmarked for mental health initiatives. We'll share more about this awesome experience soon!

We will examine ways to process our own past, teach new skills to our children, and improve communication between parent and child. This will be a time to gain information as well as reflect and plan. Leave with tools to use to promote mindfulness, processing, and healing.
