Students in Mrs. Goblish's Plant Science class went out to soil sample the school farm land. They had help from GFW Graduate Andrew Burns from CB Agronomics in Stewart who showed how to properly soil sample. It was a little chilly and windy but everybody had a great time!

Students celebrated Veterans Day this year with special activities in the STEAM Room and Music Room. The event included a video message from local veteran Jesse Gran, giving students a chance to learn firsthand about the experiences and sacrifices of those who serve.
Throughout the day, students expressed their gratitude by coloring pictures, writing letters, and creating artwork for soldiers currently deployed overseas. In addition, the school will be collecting items for care packages to send to these service members in the coming weeks.

It was a beautiful celebration of coming together to honor our veterans today at GFW Middle School and High School! The students of choir and band did a great job sharing their talents and NHS Historian Cole Jacobson led the Pledge of Allegiance.
A special thanks to our speaker CDT Brady Niebur who delivered a great message, to Second Lieutenant Samantha Rist who joined him, and to the Winthrop Honor Guard for being a part of this important event!

Mrs. Hartmann's Pumpkin Jack is BACK!
This science experiment is inspired by the children’s book Pumpkin Jack by Will Hubbell, in which a carved pumpkin is left outside after Halloween and is observed as it decomposes and eventually seeds new growth in spring. Our Kindergarten class placed a carved pumpkin in a container with soil and will observe what happens to it over time. The pumpkin we are using is the fruit from last year's "Pumpkin Jack" that Mrs. Hartmann continued to grow in her garden over the summer and into the fall season.
This project helps children understand the pumpkin life cycle, practice making observations, and see how nature recycles living things. It’s a safe, hands-on way for students to explore science, and they'll check on “Pumpkin Jack” together throughout the school year.

Congratulations to the first group of students who completed six sessions of 2BContinued Youth Mental Health First Aid training in their 10th grade health class!

Students taking College Precalculus Classes at GFW High School were about the graphs of functions with the help of an online graphing calculator - Desmos. They worked collaboratively with their group which made their learning experiences meaningful and fun!

Students in fourth grade at GFW Elementary School got to do some real deal hands-on learning recently in the STEAM room!
Classes had the opportunity to dissect cow eyeballs from a local butcher shop, which has become a favorite activity.
"The first question I usually get at the beginning of fourth grade is 'when do we get to dissect eyeballs?'" said STEAM Teacher Amy TenEyck.
Prior to the dissection, students learn how different parts of the body work together as a system and how eyes work with the brain. During the dissection, students are able to see first hand the different parts of the eye we learned about during their first weeks of school.
So cool!
