Why Choose GFW?

GFW Public Schools stands out as a leader in student-focused education, providing unmatched programming and supports for our students. We are proud to be able to help our students grow into future world class leaders, nurses, entrepreneurs, farmers, police officers, mechanics, or whatever else they would like to become.

Strong Community Support

Student receiving community scholarship

More than half of our graduating seniors typically receive a community scholarship.

Gibbon, Fairfax, Winthrop and the surrounding communities are amazing examples of communities who care, who support each other, and what it really means to be in America’s heartland. We build upon that foundation to make sure that our students are served in a safe and caring environment and surrounded by a strong staff who knows our students by name and find ways to encourage them in their personal journeys. We believe that our school is the heart of a unified community where students and community are interconnected and work together with parents, community members, and district staff to best support our students.

A Focus on Each Student

Teacher helping a student

Students are valued for who they are and given tremendous support in and out of the classroom.

Every student is different, and we have the tools to support all students so that they will be prepared for the future by engaging them in learning opportunities that meet their individual needs that are relevant to the 21st century. We are a leader in technology-focused instruction with students having access to 1:1 devices, and a variety of resources. We keep class sizes low, provide school-aged child care, and find ways for every student to get extra support, explore an area of interest, and get a head start on their future.

GFW has added more than 100 new student opportunities since 2020 including expanded course options, additional support for students, and new technology initiatives.

GFW wants all students to reach their full potential and become successful, responsible citizens in a diverse society. We do this by providing opportunities for students to explore their interests, try out career opportunities, participate in a variety of athletics and activities, and try new challenges. We have also implemented three new Academies, using the Minnesota Department of Education’s Career and College Readiness Framework, which provide the next level of career and college readiness as well as opportunities for college credits and industry certifications. Each academy has a variety of career pathways to help identify courses that could best prepare students for their future careers. GFW is offering many new elective courses as well as college credit options and industry certifications.
