AP Literature & Composition
This course will offer college-bound students an intensive study of contemporary and classic fiction through poetry, short stories and novels. Literary themes will be analyzed through critical examination and evaluated through interpretive assessments and daily discussions. Students will be expected to read, analyze and write about the role of contemporary literary theory throughout this one year course. Academic rigor and work load will be challenging. Successful completion of this year long course will provide students with the opportunity to take the national AP test for college credits.
This class has something for everyone. Literature, grammar, and writing will gobble up the biggest chunks of study time. Highlights will include Julius Caesar, the history of the English language, and writing about literature. Incorporated in all this will be the study of words, including a unit on Greek and Latin word roots.
Research & Writing
Everyone planning on attending a four-year college should take this class. You will master research, proper documentation and structure of the research essay. Recommended for seniors. Qualifies as a writing class.
We will sample literature written outside the American experience including: Antigone, Oedipus Rex, Hamlet, A Tale of Two Cities, Lord of the Flies and other selected works.
