GFW Official Statement
2020.07.30 GFW COVID UPDATE
GFW Schools will be able to allow all students to return every scheduled school day whether the state thresholds dictate in-person or hybrid learning.
The Minnesota Department of Education and the Minnesota Department of Health have created a threshold system to help inform school districts as to when they should be doing in-person learning, hybrid learning, or distance learning. GFW staff have been working diligently throughout the summer developing learning models based on guidance from the State of Minnesota. Using Minnesota State Fire Marshal Code, GFW Schools has conducted a building analysis to determine the full and 50% capacity of its buildings. The results of the analysis have determined that GFW Schools have enough space to safely educate all students during both in-person and hybrid learning models. All elementary students and all junior and senior high school students will be able to attend school on every scheduled school day when we are doing both in-person and hybrid learning.
Extra precautionary, safety, and cleaning measures will be in place to ensure that both students and staff can return to school.
GFW Schools will be providing an online option for families who have students that are unable to attend school.
GFW Schools will be sending out a survey to families on Friday, July 31st, 2020 to help us gather more specific information to support the education and safety of our students.
GFW Schools will be making changes to it’s ‘Back-to-School’ packet to reflect the updated guidance from the State of Minnesota. We will be delaying our ‘Back-to-School’ packet in order to make appropriate adjustments, and we will communicate those changes to both families and students as soon as possible.
There will be a weekly communication on Fridays from now until the start of the school year with updates.
We are excited to welcome back all learners in the fall!
2020.07.22 GFW COVID UPDATE
Governor Walz announced Executive Order 20-81, which will require staff and students in grades kindergarten and above to wear a mask at school except for reasons identified in the executive order. GFW has been and will continue to partner with the Minnesota Department of Education, the Minnesota Department of Health, and local leaders in fostering lifelong learning in a caring environment. Next week, the Minnesota Department of Education will release updated guidance to help us prepare for the fall. Our staff will start working through the guidance, immediately, and develop equitable education models that fit the needs of our students, families and broader community.
GFW has been working hard to meet our communities needs while following the guidance developed by the Minnesota Department of Education and the Minnesota Department of Health. We are excited to see our students again this fall and get back to learning! Stay tuned for further updates.
